Media Fidelity
While developing this course, I have been in touch with a faculty friend at UC Riverside in the Political Science Department, where I am a graduate. Her specialty is Political Philosophy, and she is very interested in what I am doing because UC is now launching a pilot project for online classes, something way overdue at UC. I would say that if a class like this were being produced at UCR, a variety of testing resources would be available to them, online or otherwise. A pilot project would probably include a local server, a system-wide check, and some kind of generic framework. However, of course, these resources would not be so available in a community college setting, so there I would consider floating it first to the local systems analyst, then testing it as a pilot project with a group of volunteers with various platforms and software, if possible. Regardless, whatever technical testing involved would have to consist of either a personally funded effort, or using whatever resources are available at your school site.
Instructional Quality
I was reminded when reading Dr. Newbury’s word version of the podcast, that institutional educational policy complying with ADA requirements must be adhered to, and written for online adherence if not already accomplished. We have already talked about running content by a variety of faculty to get their opinions on its quality. This would be especially important if the class were to be generic and taught by different instructors. In other settings, I think in the long run it is up to the individual writer of the class to insure quality. IQ is already a foremost issue with UC faculty for online classes, and they are only in the planning stage. I predict that there will be varying faculty opinions on IQ and some consensus must be reached, especially in science classes.
